This morning I woke up feeling out my areas of interest for tensions. Things that aren't quite clear to me...
such as:
With RS at SOC, why aren't the IDEALS embedded in the curriculum? Why do students have to "do" RS in order to experience it? What if the connections were made in the planning phase between curricular aspects of the IDEALS and they were integrated into learning areas right through the school? This would be an enormous undertaking, but it would shift RS from being a side-offering, to RS and its IDEALS pervading the school culture.
Another thing I'm wondering is how can I make my coursework in Global Ed and in Understanding Ed Inquiry as relevant as possible to what I am going to be researching in Sem 1 and doing the dissertation on in Sem 2, with potential for it to contribute to a possible further Ph D?
Assessment in Summer Sem includes a Review and an Essay in Global Ed and an Essay and a Portfolio for Understanding Ed Inquiry. I would like for these to be foundational to what I will go further to do.... stepping stones to use Prof Unsworth's analogy.
I want to know how I manage my work plan so that I am ready for the 3 days intensive in each subject in January. I think I'm already beginning in an effective manner. Reading around the areas. Sourcing material. Saving into my blog here.
[below is repeated from the GC&E post because I think it's important]
Can I relate this to the IDEALS of RS? Education. Indigenous Australia. Is Australia's indigenous education addressed in the MDG?
Is this what I want my initial subjects (my stepping stones) to lead towards?
I know I am excited about IDEALS across the world. Not just in relation to Australia or Indigenous education in Australia. So I don't want to narrow my focus too much.
I'm interested in connections between the IDEALS in schools and how it relates to the Agency of children.
[Internationalism, Democracy, Education, Adventure, Leadership and Service.] championed within schools
enabling children as Agents in their own lives.
How is each pillar of IDEALS taught? Explicitly? Inquiry learning? Ad hoc? Embedded within curriculum? Extra-curricular activities? Authentic learning? Service learning? Project based learning?
